The forage tool

The forage tool

The forage tool is a new Swedish web based aid for forage production. At www.grovfoderverktyget.se (in Swedish only) forage producers and advisors can calculate the cost for production of forage, follow up their cultivation and find knowledge and good advice on forage production. The forage tool is run by the Swedish Rural Economy and Agricultural Societies and a large part of the content is available free of charge while a yearly fee gives access to all services on the webpage. Farmers can do calculations for their own farm and advisors can work with several farms in parallel.

The web based tool has three parts:

A forage computing where forage producers can do calculations with help of models from an existing and yearly updated database, but also with their own data to get closer to the actual costs of their farm. It is also possible to use the tool to find the optimal solution for the actual production and do cost calculations on a level of detail by your own choice.

Excel based calculators for calculating for example optimal NPK fertilisation, protein fertilisation, transport costs, forage yield, pricing of forage, consumption of plastic film and additives and more.

A body of knowledge where you can easily find brief and simple information but also more deepen knowledge in the form of reports, articles and webpage addresses.

It is important to know your costs, then it is possible to see where you can decrease them and get a more profitable production. With the forage tool farmers can by themselves or together with an advisor optimize their forage production by the conditions of their farm and their own demands on the production.
